THE "TALK" ABOUT COST
Meeting allows you to evaluate us, and for us to ask questions.
(You can call us as well.)
Initial consultations last about 25 minutes. They are free. They let us know what you expect from us, and let you know what we expect from you.
We work at your direction. We don't do anything without your permission. We work to provide options.
Set up a meeting by out Contact Form (Ask & Inquire) or by calling us at (312) 265-3052.
Money...the subject that everyone avoids, but everyone wants to know about.
We are reasonable; that is why we talk about it twice.
Let's talk about money. Both screening and the Initial Consultation is free, as in no cost to you.
The Initial Consultation (free) helps us to evaluate your case. It may give you an overview of your problem, and it may give you some basic options. Most potential clients find this valuable, but it does not provide legal advice. This is why it is free, and normally distinguishes when we charge and when we do not.
You shouldn't rely on the Initial Consultation to form a full opinion of how to act to solve your problem. We actually believe that we should give sound advice, find the facts you may or may not know, and analyze your problem using the current relevant law, not the law we knew from a month ago from another case. We wouldn't rely on a cursory opinion, nor should you. Doctors have their tests and empirical based medicine, we have our fact finding and research. Both take time, effort, and can significantly impact your life or business.
If you want legal advice that is based on your facts and the pertinent law, you will spend money. It usually will cost less to spend money earlier by preventing a problem than later by fixing the problem.
Money goes towards our steady supply of caffeine, legal books, investigations, enthusiasm, and tenacious zealous commitment to your case. Why we charge, and what we charge for is defined by our agreement with you. This means you can negotiate. It also means we can negotiate. We usually negotiate so that we have enough resources to solve your actual problem. Somehow we don't think it is right to charge you when we do nothing. We have been accused of charging less than what we are worth, and always focusing on value. We change this policy at our client's discretion.
The problem determines price. You will know the costs before we begin work, and you can make a choice.
If you are concerned about price (and who isn't?), you may want to look at our pricing page.
If you are concerned about service or value, ask us to explain how we work.
The Screening Process
We ask you a few questions, you get an initial consultation or a referral. .
We require screening before we perform an initial consultation, though at times we may screen immediately preceding our consultation. We don't like arguing against ourselves; we don't represent two sides to a conflict except in special cases. If we can't help you personally, we can help you find very good attorneys.
Our Contact Form (Ask & Inquire) is an easy way to do this. You can also call us at (312) 265-3052.
It is your life, we keep it that way.
We lock up your secrets and give you the key.
Everything that you tell us will be between us.
Be open. Give us all the information you can. The more you tell us the more we can help you. Information is power for us as attorneys. You are one of our most valuable assets. Your knowledge gives us insight into your case. Your concerns provide perspective into the situation.
Some of the things we want you to be specific on are: names, relationships, dates, and places. We like documents, records, and photos. We like the seemingly insignificant or irrelevant details that turn out to be important. They let us plan battles and win your war
Ask us questions. We are here to help, not judge. Often sensitive issues will come up - issues that people are uncomfortable with. As attorneys we deal with delicate subject matters on a day to day basis. Everyone has their own set of problems, and by sorting through problems with us, we can help you find the best possible options for you.
In almost all cases, what you tell us is confidential and we can't be compelled to disclose evidence against you. There are a few situations in which we would have to disclose information, we will let you know (hopefully) before the situation arises. You will be able to stop, pause, and maintain control of the situation.
We like giving our clients the opportunity to use our talents in safety and assert control over their information and their problems.
Problems require effort to solve.
While we like instant gratification, it will probably take more than one meeting to resolve an issue.
Some problems take time. Some take effort. Some take consideration.
If the solution was easy, we would have just bought you some coffee, and had a nice chat.
But if we have gotten to this point, we think you may need an attorney. We think it will take a bit of effort, time, and resources so that you get what you need or to avoid a consequence.
You should have (1) our business card, (2) an idea of the next step, and (3) possibly an engagement agreement.
